How to discern the abrasive on the grinding disc

Grinding disc is abrasive materials that use bonding agents to consolidate the abrasive into different shapes for grinding, cutting, polishing, and the like. The characteristics of the grinding wheel include abrasive, grain size, hardness, structure, binder type, shape and size, etc. So how to discern the abrasive on the grinding disc?


Abrasive type of grinding disc


Oxidized aluminum A brown, high hardness, high toughness. Suitable for medium and low carbon steel, general free cutting.

WA white, hardness slightly higher than A, slightly lower toughness than A. Suitable for high carbon steel, alloy steel, tool steel.

PA Rose, toughness higher than WA. Suitable for high strength carbon steel, high hardness steel, alloy steel, tool steel. Can provide multi-hole tissue, flat grinding.

DA dark red, higher toughness than PA. Suitable for heat-treated high-strength carbon steel, high hardness steel, alloy steel, tool steel. Can provide multi-hole tissue, flat grinding.

The 32A abrasive grains are single crystals and have higher strength, hardness, and toughness than WA. Suitable for high strength materials, alloy steels, tool steels, high hardness steels and precision grinding.


Silicon carbide C black, higher hardness than WA, lower toughness. Suitable for low strength metal and non-metallic materials, such as plastic, stone, cast iron and so on.

GC is green, harder than diamonds and boron nitride, but has a higher fracture and hardness than C. Suitable for hard and brittle materials, such as superhard alloys, glass, etc.
